MAORI HILL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The general meeting of the Maori Hill Borough Council, held laat night, was attended by tho Mayor (Mr A. J. Butterfield), Crs S. Maxwell, G. Laurie, P. Duncan, P. Neilson, I', Clark, W. lloss, and N. A. Booth. RESIGNATIONS. Cr W. CJrc wrote tendering his resignation as a representative of South Ward, and thanking the Mayor arid councillors for the assistance always given him in carrying out his representative duties.—Accepted with regret, a letter to be forwarded expressive of appreciation for past services. The Secretary of the Maori Hill Fire Board notified that Mr P. Duncan had resigned his position as member of tho board. —Cr Duncan explained that lie had'not tho t.irho to attend to tho duties of the position.—The Mayor was appointed to the vacancy. CORRESPONDENCE. ' The Town Clerk, Dunedin, reported that 1 at a conference of local bodies it had been decided that no good result would bo obtained by meeting tho General Labourers' Union, but that application should be made to tho Conciliation Board for exemption, on the understanding that no lower wages would be paid by local bodies than those fixed by the Arbitration Court.—Cr Neilson thought they should not claim exemption, but should become parties to the award.—The Mayor pointed out that the resolution was passed by a conference of local bodies, and that their standing; aside would be useless.—Further consideration of tlie letter was postponed till next meeting. The Town Clerk, Dunedin, reported that the reticulation of High street now being widened would be more expensive to oarry out now than when the vest of the area is being reticulated.—Received. Tho Secretary of tho Municipal Association, wrote asking that any remits for consideration at the biennial conference in July next be forwarded as soon as possible; also, that names of delegates be furnished.— Consideration postponed till next meeting. The Town Clerk, Dunedin,- notified that . £10 had been voted to tho borough for the reinstatemcnt'of all gas trenches in tho brough completed to date, the City Council to be relieved by such payment of all future responsibility.—Offer accepted. Win. Mcggett and E. Cochran wrote offering to pay half cost of channelling, kerbing, and asphalting footpaths fronting tiieir nroparties on Balmacewcn road.—Referred' to South Ward .councillors, with power to act. DEPORTS,. The .Finance Committee recommended payments amounting to £801 Is. Tho bank account showed a. crcdit balance of £293 15s 4d. —Adopted. The Inspector reported on minor works . in progress.—Adopted. •
