DRAINAGE BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Dunedin Drainage Board was held last night, and was attended by Messrs J. Arkle (acting chairman), .Small, Campbell. M'Farlano, Jlarlow, Douglas, Christie, and-Dr Fulton. The iow-ii Clerk asked that two mem ber.i of the board should meet Crs Tapley and Wilson *in reference to a question affecting the probable cost of the corporation receiving hightsoil at the board's depot,—The Engineer reported that the depot in question had been three months in use, and had bee.n used by the various local bodies in the following proportions:— City, 295 leads; St, Kilda, 98; Mornington, 7; South Dunedin and Caversham, 209. The total maintenance charges in connection with this depot were £132 4s 4d.—The Chairman said that the board was losing money on the present arrangement at the rate of from £150 to £200 per year, exclusive of the cost of pumping. Was it advisable to continue the present arrangement''—Messrs Small and Christie were appointed to confer with the City Council delegates in regard to the matter. The City Council forwarded a- letter from R. D. Vcitch, complaining of the nuisance caused by the effluvia from, an opeir mud tank, at the. corner of Canongate and Clarke streets.—Referred to the Works Committee to act. The Town Clerk asked that the board proceed with the construction of two gully shafts in King Edward street, near Cargill s corner. In addition to these, it was asked that all the necessary gully shafts on the east side of the roadway between Cargill'o. corner and Bay View road bo .also proceeded with.—Referred to' the Works Committee to act. - The Town. Clerk drew the board's attention to the danger and inconvenience caused to pedestrians fay the open drain in Hobson street, with its attendant menace to public health, and asked that the board consider the question of piping and covering the drain over iis entire course: The Works Committee was prepared to lay the pipes, provided the board supplied, them.— 'Referred' to the. Works Committee to report. ' .' _ ■ Applications were received for the extension of the reticulation urea as follows: J. D. Fletcher, in respect to Forth street; — Hcward, in respect of Leckhamptcn court; a number of petitioners with respect to the Roval crescent ditches.—Referred to Works Committee for report. The Engineer submitted his proposals in rcard to "the channelling and the construction and mud tanks at the south end subdivision.—Held over pending consideration, of tlic plans by the engineer for the subdiving syndicate. , : An application to lease a portion of the Risihcr Main property was referred to the Finance Committee for report, John Mill and Co. wrote again with reference to a broken drain pine, valued at £24 2s 2d, for-which the board had, held them responsible, and claimed accordingly. They suggested that the matter be referred to artftratic.il. or that it be settled by a magistrate.—Referred to the Finance Committer:, with power to act. _ Inspector Knox made application for a conv V a letter which had been sent in W {'he board making a complaint regarding him personally.—The application was granted. Tenders for three contracts were referred to the Works Committee, with power to net.
