Tho monthly meeting of the-Taieri Drainago Board was held on Monday morning at Mc-sgiel; present—-Messrs Gibson (chairman), Kcmpshcll,' Macasidrow, Cullen, Eeid, Fipdlay, Wilmot, and Moynihan. . COIIIUSPOXDP.NCE. Messrs Mondy and Stephens, writing in connection with Hewitt's drain, notified tho board of Mr Hewitt's acceptance of tho sompensntion (£3o)' offered him.—Received. The Valuation 'Department informed the ward of'the alteration of tho valuation on Mr Fotrie's 'property at Berwick from 31 acres to 28 acres 2 roods.—Noted and confirmed, alteration to be made in ratebook. D. M'Donald, Woodsido, requested that two or three- water channels on his property shoul- !, o cleared, and two flood boxes installed—Engineer to attend to the matter in company with Mr Reid. engineer's rewrt. Mr M. Elliott, engineer, reported that sinco last mooting the West Taieri gang had been engaged in cleaning drains. Tho East Taieri gang had been engaged on tho drain through Ihc swamp connecting tho channel out from Gladfield road down with the straight cut. A 6ft drain had been cut through, and the remainder would be taken out by pieoowork on tho butty-gang syfltom. In re'forenco to the Mill Creek, the channel from Riccarton road downwards is in a very bad condition... The vegetation on tho banks had grown considerably, arid the river had silted up with gravol. He oonsidorcd that tho most economical way of arresting the gravel in the Silvorstream. and Mill Crock was to install catch weirs along a reach ot tho stream, extending for Borno distance, helow tho point at which tho Outram railway crosses the stream, and to lay,in abiding from the, railway alongside the 6tream from which tho gravel could then bo lifted by. moans of a wan© into tho trucks. Ho found, upon inquiry, there was,a good demand for the gravel. Tho, same .process could bo applied,, to tho Mill Stream, but ho would prefer to connectthe Mill Stream with tho Silvcrstrcnm at the Central railway, and treat tho gravel from both streams at one point—ln regard to tho - engineer's recommendation, it was decided that he should prepare plans and .stimates of tho cost of the. weirs. CEXEKAU Mr Moynihan moved:—"That tho chairman, Mr Findlcy, and tho engineer 'interview the lxurd's solicitor as to tho legal position in regard to tho control of the Silvorstream and its tributaries.—Mr Mac.tndroiv doconde-d tho motion, which was carried. In regard to tho schemo for the drainage of West Taieri, it was decided that tho members of the board should visit the dis-trict-on Friday next, and hold a special' meeting to consider tho schemo on the 21st inst. • On the question of overdue rates, the chairman made the suggestion, in order to bring tho date into conformity with tho' practice of, tho past, that an extension of time, from February 28 to March .31, bo granted •to ratepayers. Cr Moynihan moved, and it was resolved:—" That tho additional charge of 10 per cont. authorised by. section .70 of 'Tho Rating Act, OT,' be made upon all rates remaining unpaid eix inonths after duo dates, provided that the charge be not made on • those rates which aro now overdue if paid on on before Thursday, March 31, 1910."
