At the Supremo Court to-day Walter I Riley pbaded not guilty to the theft of ;a quantity of clothing, footwear, toilet gear, and jewellery from a cottage occupied by the staff 0 f the Grand Hotel. He was found not guilty of theft, but guilty of receiving stolen goods, and was eetitenced to two years' hard labour llichard John leoman appeared to : two charges of assaults on little girl* ! After hearing the case lor the prosecu- ■ twn, the- court adjourned till to-morrow ! WELLINGTON. November 18 ' i At the Supremj Court to-day his Honor Mr Justice Chapman fixed next Monday lor the second trial of the abduction cose in wliich the jury disagreed yesterday. Alfred George Driscoll and' ThomJi.>s O'Neil were charged with breaking into • a second-hand shop in Wellington, and 1 etsa'.ing goods worth about £50. The jury found Driscoll guilty of theft and receiving, but disagreed' in regard to O'Neil. Both men wbk remanded. Garnet Lowrv^.Frederick Gooch, and Bert Andrews were charged with assaulting James Cole, restaurant-keeper, at
Xcwtown. Andrews was acquitted, as there was a doubt regarding his identity. The other two were found not guilty.
