The Government steamer Ilitiomoa is due at Dunedin on the 10th inst,. and saib hence- for the southern lighthouses. She leaves Iho lilutr for the West Coast early in September. The p.b. Devon, of the Fedciul-lloulder-Shiro line, from Liverpool to New Zealand, via Australia, had a rough passage from Capetown to Melbourne. On tins portion of tho trip her decks were almost continuously wot, as a result of tho st-ronjr northerly gales and rough seas in tho Southern Ocean. Sho brings 140 passengers, the majority of whom are for Now Zealand. Sho arrived at Auckland from Australia oil Wednesday night, and is due ■ at Dunedin in about a fortnight. Tho British India Company's steamer Uinta, 5422 tons, was to have left Calcutta on Sunday for Now Zealand ports. Tlio Government steamer Hinomoa will reach Dunodin on August 10, on which date cargo for lighthouses and West Coast should he shipped.
