SPLUXTHD RESULTS.
(Per I'nitkd Pkk-s Association.)
AUCKLAND, April .15. Hip Hon. .]. A. .Millar staled in the course of an interview to-day that Uie Irallic on the .Main Trunk railway has vo liir exceeded all expectations. The i|iiestinn was whether it would lontinui* al the present rale, or was it morelv the IMVelty of the new route that was appealin,li to the people. "During the last lour weeks,' he added, "in addition to tin' trucks til,'it are being built here, I have had to transfer 50 Irom the Wellington section, and also to ship np another 50 from Dunediu. These are all for either the Main Trunk line tratlie or for the Auckland section of railways. There are another 50 waggons to come from Dunedin which were intemleil fur the Hiiriimii-lilulf section, lint the pressing need of the tr.iilie in the Auckland district has necessitated the transfer of these waggons to tlii.s end in order to cater for the coal trade, which is growing slcndilv in the Auckland district. We have also taken 25 of the large 30-ton timber trucks and put sides in them, which will make provision lor the carriage of about 750 tons of coal. Von see. the opening of the through line is musing the coal from this district to he senl down to places if did not reach before", and the extra waggons are needed. If the present trallie on the through line may lie taken as a fair indication for the future, there is going to he a very heavv business thine.
