MUNICIPAL EMOTIONS.
Sn.,--As tiw election of .Mayer and cotmClllois for Uiw «}i fakes place this month I would «« ro brm s !„-i ( ,re the notice of the various candidates the pivtent disgraceful state oi our streets, which appear to me to nave .oeeu v-.tively imWdxi by the present. Mayor anil coiuioiiiors and executive officers of the council. If the card'dates do not feci to bear the axpence oi hiring a vehicle to drive over our mam streets and ascertain their stat--, r feel sure that the owners of cabs, hurtse-ms, and motor ears would bo only 100 pleased to place their vehicles at the disposal of any councillor or candidate, more especially if there was the slightest prospect of any improvement being made. As regards tho heavier traffic in this eitv, the cost of damage and repairs, the injury to horses, and the extra cost in delivering must be a serious question to all those engaged in the carrying trade, and I am surprised that they have not long before taken acombined stand and placed the matter before tho council. It appeal's to me that tho present Mayor and councillors are 100 fully occupied in dealing with other matters, and that the condition of the streets has boon entirely ignored. Trie question is a most serious one, and I nope that all those interested will bring the matter beforo every candidate standing for the City Council.—l am, etc. Elector. THE EUSTACE RELIEF FUND. Sib,—Enclosed you wiJl find a P. 0.0. for £12, being a second instalment in aid of tho Eustace 'amiiy. Included in this amount are a cheque for £2 2s from Mr Uoyds, of Lakeside, and £6 collected by Mr A. Penman at the works at Catlins Uailway. The rest was collected by Mrs W. Cairns, and myself in Kaitangata. T have doily scanned the columns of your paper, and the help s;euis to come in slowly and scantily for tho.w shorn lambs. God grant that those who have plenty and to spare will never stand in the position of poor Mrs Eustace, and her six fatherless children must be the wish of those who always remember that he who piveth to the poor ler.dcth to the Lord, and that it is morl blessed to give than to receive.—l am, e'-e.. Susax I'KXMAr. Kaitangata, April 6. [We have received a money order for the sum mentioned. We have also received in aid of this fund 10s from "lVra"' and 5s from "a couple of Scaclitt Jadics." These latica' contributions weie sen* direct to tho secretary of the fund, who forwarded them to us, as, having received them from ajie-ny-mous donors, ho has no other means of acknowledging them.—Ed. 0.
