A social evening of unusual interest war. 1 - held ar the rooms of the Young Men's Christian Association on Saturday, when farewell was said to Mr G. (lordon Armour, the late general secretary of ihe association and a welcome extended to Mr C. A. Dillllier, of Adelaide, who has been appointed to ihe position of assistant secretary. Mr X. I'a.terson, a member of The Board Ol Management, presided over a large gatiier-\ iug of members and lady friends. Appreciative inference was made l>} - the chairman and Messrs Leslie, Irvine, and Hannah to the services rendered by Mr Armour to the local association. Mr Armour had liecn a member of the association for the past five years, and had taken many important positions in connection with the work, including that of general secretary, in which capacity Jio had rendered signal service. Tile work of the association had been maintained and considerable progress made. Mr Armour was entering upon a new field of service in the Montreal (Canada) Association to gain experience in methods and work, and they looked forward with great interest to a successful career in the future, Mr K Aslin, on behalf of the directors and members, presented Mr Armour with a purse of sovereigns, and at. the same time inado a presentation to Mr \Y. Cuttle, one of the foremost members, who is accompanying Mr Armour to America. jVIr Armour, wlio was received wrtji cheers, suitably responded, and characterised liis ■ service in tlie Dunedin Association as the happiest period in his life. Mr Cuttle also made a •suitable response. Tlie Chairman, on lwhaif of the board, welcomed Mr Dit,finer to Dunedin. Messrs E. Jones and A. Russell also spoke on behalf of the boys and senior members lospect.ively. Mr Difctmer was accorded an enthusiastic reception, and in a few wftrds expressed his appreciation of the welcome. During the evening songs wore rendered by Miss Taylor and Messrs Oliver and Armour, and a recitation was given by Mr AV. Hannah. Miss Brown aeled as accompanist, and the Ladies' Auxiliary managed ■-tile supper arrangements.
