EMIGRATION OF BRICKLAYERS
A WORD OF CAUTION. (Per Ukited Press WELLINGTON, March 5. The Sydney boat to-day took several bricklayers for Brisbane, who are going in search of work. Mr W. A. Grenfell, secretary of the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors' Association, to-day received word from Brisbane that competent bricklayers can secure in Queensland a run of six months' work at 12s a clay of eight hours, and paid weekly. In conversation with a reporter Mr Grenfell said he had been inundated with letters from bricklayers in all parts of the Dominion asking for the above particulars, and the writers-expressed themselves anxious to try Queensland. Although it is clear that some bricklayers are wanted, Mr Grenfell desired to sound a note of warning to those who contemplate seeking work in Brisbane. He has no information to give, as to what number of men the Queensland builders require. He therefore considers it inadvisable for a large number of men to go until word has been received regarding the extent of the work offering.
