THERMAL ACTIVITY.

. «.—. . KAWAU HOT' SPRINGS. (From Our Owx CoitßF.sroxDEXT.) AUCKLAND, March 5. A hot spring has been discovered on the island of Kawau by Mr E. Hnllett. The spring, which is quite close to the Mansion House, is emitting a large volume of water. The discovery is of especial interest as tending to show that the iii'ermul action on the Great Bariier is in reality connected with the activity on the mainland at Waiwera and Helensville. The Harrier springs were thought to be an isolated manifestation, and the idea of a line of activity extending under Hauraki Gulf was ridiculed. Hut the Kawau discovery seems to lend colour to the theory, because Helensville hot springs, various other island springs, ' Kawau, and the Barrier are all on one straight line on the map.
