no doubt that Constable Driscoll had opportunities in his capacity as constable of seeing more than the ordinary voter, and the complete absence of any evidence of voters having seen how other voters marked their papers seemed to the court to show that it could not have been a common occurrence as conlcnded. The decision concluded by slating that the court did not think that the irregularities proved showed that the poll was not conducted substantially in accordance with the provisions of law, nor did it think t hat the result was alfecled thereby. The petition would therefore be dismissed, with costs (£103). No expenses would be allowed for witnesses.

Mr W. .T. M'Dermott, secretary to the Auckland Prohibition League, said that it was a slur on (he people of Wailii lo say that the price of beer had been an important factor in connection with the last poll at Ohinemuri, as Wailii had given a consistent no-license vote since 1899.
