FOOTBALL.
Bv Full Back. Stated that all the leading players of Invercargill who last season went over to the Norihcrn Union game are to resume their study of Rugby during the winter months. Just at present, when the question of amateurism in Rugby football is being discussed, something of a sensation has been caused by the discovery of certain items which were allowed by the Now South Wales Rugby Union in the accounts of the English team last year Two members of the team stayed at Government House while' they were in Sydney, but (hey put in an account of £8 10s for fins, and this was allowed them. About, £17 was allowed to the team for lips on the steamer be-t-ween Melbourne and Sydney, and £1 a week wa.s allowed to the manager. This matter of expenses is likely to bo much discussed at the next meeting of the union, members of which arc understood to favour the English idea of amateur, while those of the Sydney Metropolitan Union are, on the whole, against it. The gross receipts in the Swansea match amounted to £2010, which is twice as large as the previous club match record at Swansea, when £821 was taken at the New Zealand game. Ernie Booth writes: "As a forward division Swansea have a specialty for systematic passing amongst themselves.' In 'backing up' one another they resembled a team of backs.—Edgar Morgan, of tlie Anglo-Wolsh team, and his brother Ivor are a dashing pair. Trew has t.ho finesse of a great player, and is one of the best three-quarters seen on the tour."
