Sin,—From the evidence in regard to tlit' charge brought ugaiiist the Carisbrook B cricket, team, published in your edition of Thursday, it would appear that somo importance was attached to the dropping of a. catch at a critical time. As the player who hit tho caicih referred to, it seems almost a pity tint I was not present to give evidence. before the association about it. That opportunity was not mine. May 1 state, however, that the ball was hit after I had run out of my crease to drive it, the full force of tho bat was behind the ball, which was slippery from tho rain that had fallen, and t.ho fieldsman was close. This would not make tho catch au impossible one; it was a very- difficult, one, jiever-t.lK-leas. Tho overthrow following did not affcct- the result of the mutch. Three runa wero scored; the match was won by 16.
All lovers of cricket will be pleased that there are enthusiastic followers keenly desirous of upholding tho honour of the .came and ready lo protect at tho leasl suggest ion of suspicious play, it is. an assurance to the public thai litlle opportunity will ever be given for crooked tactics on the cricket field.
