AUSTRLIAN NAVY POLICY
A REMARKABLE SPEECH. ALLEGATIONS OP DISLOYALTY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, February 10. Mr Johnson, a member of the House of t Representatives, speaking at a Loyal Orange gathering, 1 said that they would have to watch tho naval policy of the Commonwealth carefully, because, under tho guise of creating an Australian, navy, the party in power was striving to get the nucleus of a navy, not to act in conjunction with Uio British fleet—he would not say all ;he Iwd in his mind's eye—but becaiuee in time it would be able to turn the Australian fleet against the British fleet in Australian waters. Tho sentiment was there, ami the spirit 'to give it effect -was actively fanned in quarters to which Orange institutions vrcre r actively opposed. MINISTER'S REPLY.
MELBOURNE, February 10. (Eeceved Feb. 10, at 9.15 p.m.)
The Minister of Defence characterises Mr Johnson's statement that in certain quarters the idea, of constructing an Australian navy was to turn it against the British fleet as an hysterical charge as foolish as it was false.
