BRAVERY REWARDED.
fiOYAL HUJIAXK SOCIETY'S ' AWARDS. (Per United Press Association.) OHRISTOHUROH, February 6. The- Royal Humane Society met yesterday. A letter of commendation was awarded to Allied W. Paget for rescuing a man from drowning in Auckland on December 27, 1907. Certificates were granted to John Proud (Auckland), William Jones (Xapior), Constable Clarla (Auckland), Constable W. R. Reynolds (I'icton), and a framed certificate to,Mm lloraraka Temepara (Tolaga Bay), for rescuing or attempting to rescue persons drowning.
.Silver medals were awarded to William John Jluiiro, who rescued a man from a, whirlpool in tho liiiiherenibu River ou January 12, 1C08; to Douglas Hamilton, who rescued a woman from drowning in the roadstead, Gisborne, she being in great danger of 'being crushed between "two steamers in the open roadstead; and to Alfred K. Dates, 'or attempting to rescue a man from drowning in a heavy sea at Ciitlins bar on August 17, 1908. A silver mednl and framed certilicate was awarded to Tuck, who saved a woman from drowning in a stream near Ha-na-ram;i Springs, Rotorua. Tuck swam underneath one. of tlia horse.s stuck in the river as the result of a coach accident, which had precipitated the woman into the water and ultimately saved one of the horses.
Bronze medals were aviiided to William. Wallace, for rescuing a. boy from drowning at Hokitika, and to Fits Ekman, for rescuing two !;nys and allemptirig to rescue a third from drowning at'Kareka, Auckland. A bronze medal was awarded 1 to H. 11. Wauchop (Christchurch), for remtiug a. number of persons iron, drowning at life-saving competitions at New Uriighttm on Jannarv 9, 1908, and certificates to H. S. Williams (Chrisk-hurch) •»'d V. J., 1)1 ake (Obristchurdi) for bravery displayed on the same occasion.
