HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
SUBSIDY ASKEB FOR, (Per United Press Association.) CHBISTCIIUROH, January 25. A deputation from the Society for Promoting tlie Health of Women'and Children waited on the Hon. G. Fowlds this afternoon in reference to a Government subsidy in aid of the society's work.
Mis" Payne stated that'it would take about £350 to meet all their engagements for the year, and although they had a larger members!™ the- subscriptions were if smaller sums. They had two Plunket nurses at work visiting some 9? cases. The Minister pointed out that the matter was now under the control of the Hon. Mr Jluddo, who had taken overcharge of the Department of Public Health. Last year a vote was taken for lira Health Department for the purpose of subsidising similar societies in the four centres, £400 being then available. Since that lime societies had sprung up in Mm smaller centres, and it had 'been determined to appropriate, say, £500, aiul pay subsidies according to the amount of subscriptions received by each society, the ianie as was done in the »s& of'public libraries. The speaker would be pleased to bring the representations of the deputation before his colleague the Minister of Public Health.
