ClffUSTCHlißC'li, January 25. A cottage in Fitzgerald avenue' north, belonging to Mr Freeman, of Liuwood, was destroyed by lire, at 1 o'clock on Sunday morning. The lire brigade, turned, out, but the house had been practically destroyed when it- arrived. The houses on either side, belonging to Mis Clark and Mr Peters, were damaged, but the brigade prevented the Iknnes getting n strong hold. Mr I'eters's house was most severely damaged. The furniture was insured for £50. and the house lor a similar amount. The insurance on Mr Freeman's cottage was £100 in the Victoria and Alliance oflices. (Fitcni Our Own CoitßEsroNDm.) ALEXANDRA, January 25. A fire occurred here shortly after 1 this morning whereby a four-roomed wooden dwelling, the property of J. Tlieyers. and occupied by J, 0. Smith, was completely gutk'd. a few things only being saved. Smith was the only occupant of the house, al- tlio lime, liis wii'o and family being absent from home, and he was awakened from sleep, escirning through a window. The house wns insured for £100 and Ihe furniture for £50, Smith being a heavy loser through the lire. George Biggav, the young man wito was injured in a tram accident in Cargill road on Saturdav. is progressing very favourably at the Hospital. It will be a long time, however, before he is in a fit condition to be discharged.
