EXTKXT 01' CONTROL OVER PCPILS. (Per Uxited Phkss Association-.} AUCKLAND. January 25. Mr I'loranrc. S.M., gave an important decision at Kohukohu on Thursdav last, when .Mr Coxhead. head master "of t/ir. Kohukohu School, and John M'Oechie, his assistant, were charged with assaulting several Sixth Standard pupils. The ease of Selwyn Maxwell was taken as a test, It was shovvn that the boy participated in cheering outside the school gates, just after .school hours, two boys who had been punished. The demonstration was in defiance of the head master, Tim magistrate's decision was that the law gave the master power lo punish pupils for misconduct while on their way home from school, and that the punishment, was not excessive. The informations were therefore dismissed, with costs (£4 10s) against the parents.
