CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL.
DISCUSSION ON NEW WARD, (Per Ukitid Press Association.) , ' CHRISTCHURCH, November 26, As tho outcome of a report made at yesterday's meeting of .the Hosiiital Board by the chairman (Mr George Payling) a discussion on the subject of the rebuilding of the older portions of the hospital, Mr Payling stated that the honorary visiting staff had' conferred with the House Committee on the subject of providing moro accommodation for patients seeking admission, and tile honorary stuff had sug° gested that- a. comprehensive scheme, should be formulated. Mr ■estimated that at least £5000 ,would be required for the purpose.' A number of ladies were - intesting themselves -in a movement for finding funds for a new ward for children. Mr C, Allison took iip tlie attitude that new buildings for hospital purposes should be provided by the Government. Mr F.'lHorrell was in favour of a vote of £1000 for a children's ward, but did'not consider that the ratepayers should be called oi) to bear any greater burden, He moved- in the direction indicated. Mr Allison objected: that notice should have been given of such a mit-ion, and after lengthy discission the matter was not proceeded with, as in the meantime membm had left, and* there w-as not a quorum, Mr Horrell withdrew his motion. The Chairman remarked that Mr Allison had blocked the work of the institution sinc-e he became a member. Mr Allison contended that on the present occasion he was vindicating the Tights of members of the board.
