v AMENDED REGULATIONS. (Pin Unites Pbess Association.; . WELLINGTON, November 26. Regulations are gazetted under "Tlie Immigration Restrictioiv Amendment Act, 1908," as follows(1) Any Chinese resident. in New Zealand who desires to leave Now Zealand with the intention of returning thereto: shall apply to the Collector of / Customs at the port .nearest to the Jilace where he is,best known, or at the final port of departure, for a certificate of registration. (2) The collector shall issuea certificate in the form i|Kthe schedule hereto, and hand it to the Chinese applying for the same. A duplicate of this certificate shall he retained by the Collector and filed in his office. (3) Each Chinese applying for a certificate shall be required to provide two photographs of himself, one of which shall be securely attached to 'the certificate and the other to jtlie duplicate of the.same. lie shall also be required to place impressions of his thumbs on both forms of certificate for tlie ' purposes \of identification, if necessary, oh his rot-urn. (4) On the return to New Zealand,of a Chinese holding a certificated as above, the. Collector at the first port; of. arrival shall, if satisfied of the identity of tho holder with the person named in the certificate, a.nd that he has returned within four years after tho date of regis! a&yi, regard such Chinese as exempt, tram compliance with the requirements of r.cction 42 of "The Immigration Restriction Act, 1908." (5) If the Collector is- uncertain as to the identity of the Chinese holding a certificate with the photograph attaehea to same lie shall require the Chinese to place, his thumb-prints 'on the certificate, and compare same with the' thumb-prints taken Mom leaving. Sew Zealand, and if still • uncertain as to identity the Collector shall regard the Chinese as liable to comply with the requirements of the 6aid section 42, and he shaJl not ,be allowed to land if'unable to fulfil the same. (6) Alh certificates presented by returned Chinese shall be retained by the Collector and forwarded to the Collector at the port of issue, and there filed with the duplicates..
