STATE GOVERNORS
EARL CREWE'S DESPATCH. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 26. Sir 1. Bent tabled Lord Crewe's despatch in reference to the appointment of Slate Governors. It says that the suggestion that appointments should be made from Australian citizens involves a far-reaching change, which could not be considered or entertained in any cas<;, unless it applied to all the Australian States, not one alone, and until public opinion had been demonstrated overwhelmingly in its favour. ' It adds: "No doubt there is much tc be said in favour of the Canadian system, under which the Central Government appoints the provincial Governors, and if the people of Australia desired a similar system the Imperial Government, in all probability would 1m disposed to advise the King to meet their wishes."
