THE ELECTIONS AND SOCIALISM.
Sm, —" True; Socialist," writing in tho Daily Times, holds that tho' eleotiori result wes a rout for Socialism. I hold the opinion tihat 86/5000 votes in two electorates in this city w'ere recorded for tho Labour men tho ' result must bo regarded as a moral victory for Socialism, .bec'aiao it means the revolt of SOOO of our workers in. this industrial centre against tho established order of things, by virtue of which the many are kept poor that the few may remain rich; Iff \yelliiigton bno .'Labour man • was '• returned; One man ie not much, but it proves what organised labour is capable of achieving. . Organised; labour demands that the Government shall not stand still, but shall attack the lieavy burde:: of rent, interest, aiid profit. The Sooialist 'movement proclaims that the labour of this nation, wisely organised and honestly directed, would moro than ■ suffice to producp abundance for all, wo have many poor and worfcless. " True Socialist" must bo informed that the fight is not. over, and that it has only begun. It , must go on-while we have one child unfed, oho man unemployed or badly housed. Wo 'havo three years in which to prepare for tho skirmish, and we are going to do it.—l am, etc.,' 7. 7 j J. E. MACManus.-
