The deaths in October were 216—an increase of two on the number in September. Of the total deaths, males contributed 116 and females 100. Fifty-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 25 per cent, of the whole number. Of these, 40 were under one year of age. There were 57 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards. Six men (67, 72, 75, 75, 80, 88) and nine women (66, 69, 69, 70, 79, 82, 96, 99) died at Auckland; three men (62, 71, 82) and four women (70, 76, 76, 80) at- Wellington; seven men (65, 68, 72, 73, 75, 79, 82) and eight women (65, 66, 68, 73, 75, 76, 91, 93) at Christchurch; and 14 men (65, 67, 67, 68, 70, 70, 73, 75, 76, 77, 79, 80, 82, 86) and six women (69, 70, 71, 74, 75, 76) at Dunedin.
