FIRES.
(Per United Press Association.) . , DARGAVILLE, Novamber ffi. ; ' There was no insurance on Brown and Sons' boatbuilding' premises at Tekoparu, destroyed by fire yesterday morning. The damage is estimated ait £2500. ■. > ; A fire broke out early yesterday morning in a four-roomed wooden house in Caigill Btroct, owned by Mr Goorgo Morrison, of Mornington, and "occupicd l 'by Mr George. Barton, a butcher. The occupant retired to bed at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, aadaboiii; 3 a.m. was awakened by one of bis children screaming and coughing. Tho bouse wao full of smoke, ami, though good ffdnfc jrefi. done by tho brigade, it was gutted before the flames were got under. Tho hou«s;waa valued at £300, and was insured, vfiib the> National Insurance Company for £275. ,'IV furniture and l effects, valued at £200, weto insured in the South British office fox £135. A few ohairs and the piano were saved, muoh damaged by smoko and water. Some linon was hanging in front of the lotchon stove, and to this the cause of the fire" is attributed.
