FEDERAL POLITICS

STATEMENT BY MR FISHER. THE GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS. Prosj Asjociation-By Telegraph-Copyright MELBOURNE, November 25.' ' (Received Nov.- 25, at 11.40 p.m.) -'■ Mr Fisher, Federal Prime Minister, made a statement in the House to-day regarding the Government policy! He said the Government looked forward to not more than 14 more sitting days. There had not been time for the Government to give attention to any large issues of policy. Customs would in all likelihood show an improvement of about £89,000. That arose' largely through a decrease in the production of sugar. The Government hoped to give full effect to the old-age pensions scheme, but could not accept Sir Wm. Lyno's estimato of the amount required.' His own 'idea as to the amount was that it would be about £1,500,000.,: The Government would see that sufficient funds were available, As to the New Protection, the Ministry proposed to appeal to the people by a referendum to give such powers to Parliament as would enable it to give protection to the worker as well as to the manufacturer. The Government accepted the division given on the Federal capital site question, and would introduce a bill to enable a suitable area to be chosen, and the bill would be introduced this session.; The lron_Bonus Bill would be proceeded, with, but some amendments would be introduced. ,
