The Koonya is due at Port Chalmers this morning with bunker coal from West Const for H.M. Cruiser Pioneer. Sho comes up to town in the afternoon, and sails 'to-morrow for Oamaru. Tho Papanui steamed up from Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon. and berthed at the Victoria wharf, whore she will discharge her Homo cargo—3ooo tons —for this port. The Invoraryill sailed from. Dunedin yesterday afternoon for southern ports. The Storm sailed yesterday afteYnoon for northern ports. The Wainma -ailed yesterday ofte.rnoon for Newcastle. Before sailing Mr Koefo> third officer of the Talune, transferred to a similar position on the Waimna. The 1 Dorset is due at Timaru to-day with a cargo of limber from Waikawa, and returns to Dunedin to-morrow. The Fedoral-I-loulder-Shire liner Devon, from Liverpool, via northern ports, is expected to arrive at Dunedin about December 12. The Morayshire, with Wellington as her first port of call this trip from Liverpool, is due at Dunedin about New Year's Day, via northern ports. The cargo steamer Gowanburn, from New York, via northern ports, is expected to arrive at Dunedin about tho end of DeoemfJer. Captain Rogers has resigned from the command of the barque Laird. It is reported (says an exchange) that he will take up a shoro'position at Wellington. Tho Kaiapoi brought to the Bluff from Newcastle /1800 bags bonedust, 200 tons timber, including 49 piles for .harbour works, and 200 tons coal. Sho has 1300 tons coal for Dunedin. The Ruapehu is expected to leave Lyttelton on Saturday for Timaru, Port Chalmers, and Bluff to continue her discharge, and returns to northern ports to continue her Homeward loading, sailing finally from Wellington on December 17 for London. Mr W. Foulis, late chief officer of tho Ulimaroa', has teen placed in command of (he coastal steamer Excelsior-at Melbourne; and Mr R. Darroch, late chief officer of rJic Riverina, has been appointed chief officer of the Ulimaroa. The tug Theresa Ward and the dredge Murihiku, having both completed their annual survey and overhaul at Port Chalmers, sailed yesterday morning on their return to Bluff. Both of these vessels are kept as spick and as a gunboat, oven under service conditions, and when ready to return to their home port their general appearance evoked warm expressions of praise from people connected with shipping. At Devonport Dockyard on October 6 Mersfs Luller. Horsey, Sons, and Cassell sold several obsolete warships. The thirdclass armoured battleship Alexandra (9490 tons), lying at Spit-head, realised £21,750; tho third-class battleship- Colossus (9420 tons), novr at the Kyles of Bute, was sold for £18,500; and the gunboat Badger (254 tons), now at" Devonport, for £900.
