THE DEFEAT OF THE SOCIALISTS.

Sill,—Now that t.he elections are practically o\cr, and tho oyi'tj of <1 great many liavo been opened to the dangerously, crafty methods adopted by tho members of the so-called Labour party, who' have shown themselves to belong to til® rank, rovoHi. tionary, "scientific," or. militant Socialists, and who arc doing their h-cst. to got a foot. . hold in Now Zealand, it is pleasant to note that they have been outdone in almost every district in our Dominion. The nature of this brilliant brotherhood has,'however, been so plainly shown in the recent clectione that iho solid-iniii<lod electors will keep a sharp eye on its future movements, Sir, when Mr T. Mnckenzio some 12 months ago sounded ahead the warning note of danger in connection with this very party, his warning was scouted by some of our loading mon. But thinking men all over the land saw that Mr Mackenzie had /- first .discovered what was likely to become ft real danger to t.ho people of this land; and you, Sir, along with the leading papers in the other centres, praised him,for having sunk some minor differences of policy, and for having thrown in his lot with the ' Ward Government rather than that tho (jovcrnment, weakened by tho presence ot. this party of "Socialists," should liavo to pander to such a party to the detriment if our fair Dominion. I think that the thanks of our own community aro duo to Mr T. Mackenzie for the cour;e he then adopted, and also for his manliness, at the cost of his actions being misconstrued, in taking the stand he then toiok. It showed his foresight, as well as V his courage, at, a.timo when he stood silono; T.hat, happily, is not his position now, seeing that what lie predictwl 12 months ago has been patent to all during the Iqst few weeks, when,'in order that this party of malcontents might usurp the power, they have tried to sink those men who have beert ' the best friends the working men eyer had. But, fortunately, these "Socialists" have been routed and exposed; and,' Sir, lcUn hope, now that the .Government is again able to settle down .with a large working* • majority, it wjll bo able to carry on its labours in the best interests of the people of this Dominion.—l am, etc., November 23. True Socialist.
