An extraordinary range of prices was apparent ra the tenders sent into the City Counuil for Urn work of const meting tho proposed dam at Salomon's Knob. W;ujiui-o-niiit<i Iteervoir. The lowest tender received was for a. sum slightly over £40,000. and tho. bigho&t was nearly double that amount. The lowest, tenderer, however, had u doubt as to the sufficiency of Ids estimate, and eventually lie forfeited hi;; deposit of £500, probably on the assumption. tJiat tiho first loss would 1>? the least. The second tendor. al about £6000 more, was then accepted by the council. The contract to cany .out. the work has been signed.
