MR J.E MACMANUS MOVES A MOTION.
Al last- night's no-license meeting in Hit l Ganisim, Hull Jlr Mat-Manns, tho well-known Socialist and Labour advocate. moved the following motion in a concise and able speech, it was seconded by Mr J. ti. Baxter, Invercargill. and carried by acclamation with considerable enthusiasm by the very large audience present:—''This meeting is of opinion tlm-t the statement of Mr J. Ramsay Maedonald, M.P., is correct—viz.. 'that anintelligent and vigilant democracy cannot . exist alongside a nourishing liquor trade'; therefore we call upon all working men in the interests of our class to vote no-licenrc." Mr MaeManus said that- ho felt ashamed to admit that although he had always seen the harm drink did to labouring men' lie had only recently given the matter sufficiently serious thought to show the necessity of this evil being removed from the path of the progress of the workers.
