WELLINGTON, August 4. file Municipal Conference to-day adopted by 27 votes to 14 a motion l>v the St. if ild a Borough that the Municipal Corporaof 1806 should be amended to enable each council to prescribe such extent of open space and distance across as may be deemed reasonable, subject to the express condition that such extent and distances shall not bo. less than the extant and distances prescribed by statute. On the _ motion of the Now Plymouth delegate, it was decided that the law relating to public health bo amended to make it obligatory that where death occurs irom a notifiable infectious disease such death shall be registered before the burial takes place; also that the laws re-lalm* to publio health be amended to make it obligatory for auotiuieoi's and second-Kami dealers, before reviving bsddimr or.clothing for sale, to require a declaration that such bedding, etc., has not been exposed to infection or has been properly disinfected. . ' , The following rcsultions were carried:— " That the legislation regarding loans lo local bodies bo amended to enable loans to be converted at a higher rate of interest where- necessary without talcing a poll of ratepayers." "That the limitation imposed by clause 18 of tho Local Bodies' Loans Act,'that no delienture shall be for more than £1000, bo removed, and that debentures lie issued to any amount." „ • ■ "That the Government be asked to promote a bill defining tho limit of the speed at which motor cars may bo driven." "That the Local Bodies' Loans Act of 1901 bo amended to allow leans secured by special rates over portions of a borough to be consolidated in one loan, or to permit one rate to be struck over the whole area to provide all the interest on special loans." "That when a portion of a borough ami the merged area is subject to any special rate or rates for the repayment of moneys borrowed, authority shall be given by statute to the latter borough to levy arid collect such rates as the formor borough may require from year to year to pay interest and sinltinjr fund in connection with loans borrowed prior to the merging, provided a poll of the ratepayers is first taken." " That tho provisions of the Public Works Act bo bo amended as to provide that exemptions may bo allowed as to tho width of streets in cases of subdivision of land, and conditions imposed, at the absolute discretion, of the local authority." It is expected to conclude the business to-morrow, and tihe delegates will wait on ilio Hon. Dr Findlay in the afternoon lo lay before him tho matters dealt with.
