AMERICAN BATTLESHIP FLEET.
ANOTHER WIRELESS MESSAGE. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyii°ht, SYDNEY, August 4. Renter's Agency has received a further wireless mcesnije from the American fleet, dated 8 p.m., August 1, as follows:— Fifteen hundred miles from Auckland. At 7 ih tho morning the fleet IMfltcd, the eastern end of Tutuila, steaming along the coast in single column, close inshore, thus giving the inhabitants a splendid view. At 9 in the morning the' fleet headed direct for Auckland, the cruising formation of line squadron being resumed. Speed was reduced to nine and a-half knots in order to avoid arrival at Auckland before August 9. The hospital ship Relief stopped at Pago to coal, and will follow the fleet to Auckland. The weather ms fine, but hot. MELBOURNE, August 4. (Received August 5, at 0.37 a.m.) Reuter has received a wireless message from the fleet, which was sent n.t 8 o'clock on Sunday evening. The fleet's position then was 18.29deg south and 175 54deg m . s t, Auckland being distant IAO miles. The fleet had steamed' 240 miles in the last 24 hours. "All well." AUCKLAND PREPARATIONS. Tho decorations of the arohes was commenced to-day, and various business premises are getting their illumination gear out. Present appearances indicate that tho illumination, beyond one or two of tho principal .business houses rtnd tho displays made on the water front, will not be anything to marvel at,, and tho majority of tno_ transparencies on view so far are noticeable rather for ugliness than originality. Rough weather set in to-day, but it is not from the quarter whence Auckland usually pots its longer spells of wind and rain. Boarding houses are filling rapidly, and the streets wore thronged to-day by a Jamre number of country visitors, who came canv "to avoid the rush," and consequently don't know what lo <lo with themselves. The undesirable section of tho population has also boon largely augmented and the police have given the public fair warning to look out for thieves, pick-pockets, and garrotters, and ladies have received a hint that it is not safe to ho out on lonely streets after dark. Tho Governor, Lord Plunket, accompanied by Lady Plunket, will arrive in Auckland, via tho West Coast by the Takapuna on Friday, in connection with the visit of the American Fleet, Caolam Lyon, A.D.C., with their Excellencies' i household, will arrive by the Tutanckai ! from Napier to-tnorrow. On Siturday ' the guests who are lo stay at Government I House during "fleot week" will arrive in tho city.
