Mosdat, August 3. (Before Messrs J. Mill and J. Watson. •T.P.'s.) _Drunkenness.-A first offender was connoted and discharged.-—Slwdrach Perry charged with being drank, was fined ss, and 2s costs—Defendant was further charged with having committed an indecent act in a right-of-way off a public street, but as tho pohco gave him a good character and excused hi conduct on grounds of inebriety v,-as convicted and discharged.—Tlios' GrifTen was also charged with being drunk' and lor that offence was convicted and dis'charged. llosisting Ai-rest.-Thomas Griffen ua« further charged with having resisted Constable Smart whilst the latter was in tho execution of his duty.-Accused endeavoured to excuse his conduct by pleading that ho did not think ho gave tlie consteblo any trouble-Sergeant Mujlany said accused was knocking about George street on Saturday afternoon. Ho went into a backyard, and after committing a grossly indecent act in view of tho family, offered to fight the father when remonstrated with. But for tho3o people not wishing to appear at court, a charge in that connection would have been laid.—Constable Smart gnve evitlcnco jus to having buttons torn off his tunic, and being struck on the jaw while locking up accused, after convoying- him in a state of drunkenness from the backyard in question,—The Bench took a serious view of the matter, and after convicting accused lined him £2 and costs (2s), in default 14 Bays' imprisonment, with hard labour, which he elected to take in preference to paying Iho fine.
