Shortly iftor midnight oil Friday the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate arrived off Tiiiaroa Heads, and steamed up to Port Chalmers early on i-aturday, after a trip, of 59 days from port to port. All being well on board, tho vessel was promptly admitted to pratique and ™ c, l in by tho Health and Customs Officers, and berthed at George street pier, where sho immediately commenced to discharge cargo. Tho Waimate left London on June 3, and experienced fine weather to arrival at Teherifie on Juno 11, where £ I n ' no hours to replenish her bunkers, and continued her voyage the t>amo oyening, light trades and fine weather continuing until after parsing the. Four days later she encountered a gale from the south-east, which blow at hurricane force, and was accompanied by mountainous seas, which caused thoshiptobe practically hove to for 48 hours, during which time the decks were awash foin and aft and cubing were flooded. A succession of south-west and westerly gales were then experienced, and heavy seas were frequently shipped. These conditions materially hampered tho vessel's progress witil July 22, when matters became worse.
