ST. KILDA LAWN TENNIS CLUB.
Tho third annual meeting of tho St. ! Kilda 'lennjt, Club was held in the Bowling Club's pavilion last evening. The president (Mr J. J. Marlow) occupied the chair, and Aero was a largo attendance, consisting principally of ladies. The annual report., a summary of which is given below, was unanimously adopted without, discussion. The club competed in the B Grade handicap competition, drawn up by the Otago L.T.A., and though not occupying a very high position at the end of the season, still a very creditable performance of four wins out nf eight matches played was put up. An invitation to pay a visit to Lawrence was accepted by the club at Sew Year, and those who had the pleasure of making the trip (though not victorious) were entertained in a right royal manner by the members of Ac Lawrence Club. At the beginning of the season the club was iii debt to the extent of some £100 odd, but by means of a most successful bazaar and art union not only was the debt completely wiped out but a pavilion of small size was erected also. The Match Committee decided that the racquets presented, by Mr J. M. Gallaway should be <rivon as prizes to tho lady and gentleman champions of the club. The ladies' championship was won by Miss T. White after keen competition, but unfortunate'y, through some misunderstanding, the gentlemen's championship \v«s not completed. The handicap tournaments wero decided as follow:—Ladies' Handicap Singles, Miss S. White; Combined Handicap, Miss May Colo and M* A. Tough; Men's Handicap Singles, Mr Simpson. The ladder, or status, system was introduced into the club for the first! time, and judging by the amount of cnthu- i siasm that was created it would be advisable j to retain it, . ■ I Tho surface of the courts is not what the j committee would desire, but it is hoped by the co-operation of the members and tho i efforts of a special committee thai the racra-1 bera will have a surface to play on second, to none, and thereby give that practice which ' is absolutely necessary lo ensure enjoyment, t A matter that should always be borne in '■ , mind is that, of letter shelter from the prevailing north-east wind to the players when engaged in. play. i The balance sheet which was laid upon i tho table showed a credit, balance of 3s lOd. | The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. ,T. Marlow; vice-presidents. Messrs W. J. Burk and W. i T. M'l'arlane; lion, secretary, Mr L-! Lodge; hon. treasurer, Miss ' D. Core; > Manasement Committee—Misses '/,. Prvor S. White, T. White, I. Parth, Messrs"W. Fraor. B. Mercer, K. Simpson, P. Robertfoil : delegate to -\.Z T. Association, Mr G. I Callaway; lion, auditor, Mr R. V. Parker; ' Match Committee, Messrs 11. E. Barth i and E.
