NOTES FROM NASESY.

(Fsost Our Owir Cobhespondeht.)

NASEBY. July 28. The weather, .which for the last few days seemed to bo fairly settled,, broke again this morning. Up till yesterday bright days were succeeded by keen frosty nights, but this morning the weather was very cold, with sleet and snow showers. Tho barometer was rising. Owing to the recent wash-outs on the Otago Central line 110 coal came to Bajifurly from Dunodin for some days, and this is still a rather scarce commodity here. One result of the recent severs, weather will be tho thinning-out of rabbits and hares to a very considerable extent. These animals are now being forced right into the gardens and orchards of the township, and are causing still further destruction to the trees by damaging and destroying the bark.

The 6now where undisturbed is still lying to a depth of more than a foot, though titoro are piles and itiqjukls of snow everywhere sft and 6ft high. Thawing ) now, a very slow process. The coach to Ranfurly runs regularly, and is nearly back to its time-table—only taking about half an hour longer each way. In the Magistrate's Court here yesterday morning application was made by Mr' Davev for the rehearing of a case in whioh the plaintiff obtained judgment by default a. fortnight ago. The defendant, residing at a distance, bad intended to defend the action, but owing to illness was. unable to attend, and wrote to the court asking for an adjournment of the case. Owing, however, to the disorganisation of the mails, the letter arrived some time after judgment was given. Mr M'Noil appeared for the plaintiff. The magistrate granted the application.

At midday the weather was clear again, with a good frost, and curling was in full swing. Curlers from Dunedin can be pretty sure of getting some good games. A commencement, was made to-day to clear Wedderburn road from its junction with Naseby-Ranfurly road.
