CHARITABLE AID BOARD IN DIFFICULTIES.
BANK OF NEW ZEALAND REFUSES OVEKDRAFr. (From Oun Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, July 27. Mr M. Stevenson, chairman of the Olago • District Cha.rita.blo Aid Board, is at present ill Wellington regarding a difficulty that has arisen in connection with the administration cf tho board's functions. Tho board lias made the levies on the local bodies for the year as usual, but these arc not yet returnable. It has been usua! for the board to carry on for throe months with tho assistance of tho bank, but on this occasion tho bant had refused an overdraft,. statins that• there is no Legislative provision for such an overdraft. The consequence is that the month's cheques have become payable, but there is no money available to meet them. It was hoped that the Government would, under the circumstances, pay the subsidy in adva„ but as there is no authorisation for the payment that cannot very well b-c done. It is understood that an effort will therefore be made to got tiro authorisation in tho next Imprest Bill, which is due in a day or two.
