WILLIAM E, REYNOLDS AND CO'S DUNEOIN MONTHLY REPORT. We report as follows for the mcjilh endin" June 22, 1908: — The weather lias continued uncommonly mild during the greater part of the month, but this week conditions l;ave entirely changed, and cold, wet days have beon experienced. Snow fell in some districts, but, the ground being very warm, it quickly disappeared. Ploughing is now general, the groutjd being in splendid order. Weather conditions in Australia have l)een cloaaly watched on this side, and the local reports of recent good raiiiß have had a most depressing effect on the local marketß. Inquiry for all lands of produce has practical'y disappeared for the time being, and as a result values pjo easier, with a strong tendency towards further weakness. Wheat.—Foreign markets show a decline which has resulted in looal buyers further reducing their limits. Holders, however, show no inclination to meet the reduction, and consequently practically no businees ;s passing. We give nominal values to-day: long-barried, 4s SJd; short-berried, 4s 8d; fowl wheat, 4a 7{d -per bushel of COlb, sacKs weighed in, net cash, f.o.b. Oats.—Australian reports! dated 14th read as follows:—"Rain tell in a large nuiubcr of districts during the week, useful falls, and in those places which wanted it." Strange as it may seem, tile above statement is ab=-o-lutely the ruling factor in the oat market to-day. The Australian demand has a'.most disappeared, and coastal buyers are holding off and watching developments. As a result prices have come back sharply, and a reduction of fully 2d por bushel in the last fortnight lias to bo reported. To what extent this drop is justified remains to be seen. Stocks are undoubtedly above tho avemgo of the Iftat few years, and without any foreign demand it is an open question whether they can be absorbed locally or not. A renewal of the Australian inquiry would entirely cban«e the complexion of affairs. We quote to-day: A grade Gar tons, 2s Gid; £> grade feed, 2s sd; seed lines, 2s 7d to 2s 9d per bushel of -101b, i.0.b., sacks weighed in, net cash. Barley.—Very few lines are offering, and for tliese there is a ready market provided quality is right. To-day's values aTe: Best malting, 5s to 5s Gd; medium, 4s 9d por bushel of sUlb, sacks extra, net cash. Butter.—A 'month ago we repoited the value f.0.1/ at lid. at which price it remained stationary tor a few weeks, and then - eased slightly, some small lots offering ct a fattbing less. The market looked like going lower when an unexpected demand set m for London, and factories here were not slow to stiffen their prices up to lljd and lljd. The former price brought buyers nt once, and when all available was sold some buyers advanced to IHd, anil now almost, if not all. autumn may be said to have been arranged for. Our market closes very steady. Cheese.—lt is now quits the off season, and only a few winter factories ere working. Fair shipments of autumn make have been made for London during the month, a fair proportion of which bus been on factories' account, but very little will go from this on. There is good inquiry locally for autumn make at fid and in small Lots up to GJd per Ib. Winter make is not yet available, but wilt be on otler shortly, and we anticipate, there being plenty of it, that prices will ease, especially as winter make is never in great favour. Marke; closes with « disposition towards easier prices. Seeds.—The markets are all very quiet, and there is practically no inquiry for any lines. Merchants hold fair stocks, and there is not much prospect of any trade of consequence till the spring demand sets in from the country. Ryograss.—Odd lines of farmers' seed are oSering, and are selling at rates somewhat below those ruling in the late autumn. Stocks aro by no means heavy, and a revival of trade can be looked ior with the spring trade. Values to-day are: Machine-dressed 301b seed, 4s 3d to 4s Gd; 2Slb, 4s Id to 4s 2d; 261b, 3s Hd to 4s per bushel of 201 ii, f.o.b. net cash (sacks extra). Cocksfoot.—Merchants arc stocking lightly in view of the high values*. Supplies available are very small, and should farmers decide to sew anything approaching the usual proportion -of this seed the inaTket will le absolutely bare before the spring season is over. We quote: 1711) seed, 9Jd to OJd; farmers' dressed, 14!1>, SM to 9d per lb, f.o.b (sacks extra). " ' Clovers. New crop colonial cov,'grass is offering in fair quantities, but white'clover is coining on the market very slowly, and it is evident that a much smaller quantity than usual of this has been saved this year. Values run: Cowgrass, tJSs to 110s- wlu> 90s to 105 p. Chaff.—The demand continues fair for -ill lines of bright, heavy quality offering. Secondary qualities are, however, difficult to quit. First quality is quoted at £5 5s to .'.'s 103 per ton, f.o.b (sacks weighed in). Flow.—lmportations from Australia continue fairly heavy, which has had a distinctly quietening elteet on the local insrket. The local association has made a further reduction of 10s per ton to meet tile competition, but in the state of Mie wheat market, in Australia it is questionable whether the small reduction wiil have the defiled result. Values to-'.Uy ore: 200's. .£11; lOtVs £11 JOs; 50's, ill 15s; 251b. £12. f.0.b., net cash. Oatmeii!.—'l tie demand is quiet to-day, value being nominally £13 f.o.b, in sacks, per ton of 22-lOlb. liritn. The shipping price is £G per ten. Stceks are sufficient tor present requirements. I'ollard. £7 per lon. There is a moderate demand for all available.
