Deceased, who was 75 years of age, has boon a well-known resident of Naseby for very many years. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of five sons and three daughters. At Invereargill during the progress of the winter show the Oneese and Buttermakers' Association took advantage of the occasion to present a handeome case of pipes to Mr James M'Lauehlan, of Wyndham. Mr John Sawers (president) made tho presentation, saying that it was intended as, a recognition of the long ami valuable services Mr M'Lauehlan bail rendered to tho dairying industry. Mr W. S. O'Brien, who has been acting superintendent of the Wellington City Fire Brigade eince Mr Hugo resigned, has been appointed superintendent of the brigade. Numbers of applications were received for the position. About. 18 months ago Mr O'Brien was deputy superintendent of the brigade. He has (says the Press Association) been in the lire-fighting business ever since he was 13 years of age. Mr J. Manchester, ex-Mayor of Waimate, and for 40 years a prominent figure in the public life of the town and district, was (says the Press Association) last evening presented with a handsome illuminated address and a valuable piece of plate by the residents in recognition of his services in the borough and county. The Mayor (Mr N. Francis) presided, and Mrs M. Studholme made the presentation in the presence of a large gathcringof subscribers. Mr Guy Sdioleiiold, who is proceeding to London to represent tho Associated Proas of New Zealand, was married on Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's Pro-cathedral, 'Wellington, to Miss Adola Lucy Stapylton Bree, daughter of the late Miles Reginald Bree. of Southland, and Mrs Bree, of Fitzherbert terrace, Wellington. The Post states that Mr and Mrs Scholefield leave for London by the Morayshire, due to sail from Lyttelton. on the 27th inst. Rev. C. H. Laws, 8.A., minister of Trinity Methodist. Church, is making good progress on his journey to tho Old Country. ■ En route he has visited the Holy Land, and, landing at Jaffa, travolled through Jerusalem, Samaria, Nazareth, and thence passing the Sea oi Galilee by rail to Damascus. His locum tenens (Rev, E. 0. Blomires) intends to follow the course of his journey in a descriptive sermon to-morrow morning l at Trinity Church, and in the evening will make extensive reference to scenes _i;t Jerusalem. Mr Laws is in all probability in tho Homeland by this time.
