The notes in circulation total £28,787,000; public deposits, £9,777,000; other deposit, £46,032.000; Government securities, £15,073,000; and other securities, £19,979,000. 'Aa bank rate is 2i per cent. 1-1:1 Is are ■, discounted as follow:—London, 1| per cent.; Paris; 1? per cent, ; Berlin, 3{ per cent. Consols are quote<l at £87 12s 6d. The Berlin bank rate is 4 per cent. The following are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous:—
Wheat market: Reports of heavy rains and floods in the American chief "muter crop areas have caused a revival of the markets, but better news regarding the crops from tho South-east of Europo cliocus the upward movement. The future course of the market is largely dependent on the crop reports, Cargoes are quiet, but are firmly held. The sum of 36s od is asked for New South Wales Muron shipment. Nothing is offering for shipment. The sum of 36s has been paid for a June steamw parcel. Tltore is a fair demand for Australian spot at from 3&5 6d to 39s 6d. . The American risible supplv of wheat is 25,088,000 bushels. Tho Hour market is slow and easier. Australian' is offering in London at from 25s 6d to 266 6d, and at Glasgow at 27s 3d. The butter market is very firm. Danish, 114s to 116s. Colonial k well cleared. Choicest Australian, 1026 to 106s (3, few lots at 102s). Copper, spot, £58 2s 6d. Tin: Spot, £127; three months, £128 ss. Lead, £12 12s 6d. Spelter, £19. Pig iron, 51s 3d. The 6ugar market is steady. German, lis 2d; first marks, 12s 10d." la the Bradford wool market there is slightly better inquiry, especially for erossbreds. Forties, lOd; forty-sixes, 12d; common sixties, 21Jkl; super., 22Jd. .Silver is quoted at 25 l-16d per oz.
