» RATEPAYERS AND THE LOAN. 1 (Faou Ora Own Correspondent.) ! • OAMARTJ, Juno 18. A small but representative meeting of 5 ratepayers of the Oamaru Harbour Board t was held at Tokorahi on Tuesday evening for the purpose of considering the attitude f the ratepayers should take up with respect to 3 the present loan proposals of the board. . Lengthy allusion was made by one of tho 3 ratepayers (Mr L. Daster) to tho fact that I the board was collecting £1900 a year moro in rates than was required to produce the interest on the various rating loims, and [ at the close a motion was carried strongly . objecting to any further loans for the board 3 until the present rales had been adjusted in favour of the ratepayers. It was also 3 agreed to write to Sir J. G. W»Td ox- ". plaining the position of the ratepayers, and s asking that their interests should be prof tected, as well as those of the bondr holders, when the bill for the new loan , was under consideration.
