THE REPRESENTATION QUESTION.
o AN AUCKLAND OPINION. (From Our Owjt Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, June 18. The representation question was referred to by the Mayor (Mr A. M. Mvers) in. his speech at the Chamber of' Commerce dinner last night. He said that the matter was one of tho greatest imporiancs to the North Island. The soul hern members were endeavouring to secure • the adoption of a new policy in rega.rd to representation, and the Auckland province, which was the largest and most populous, was affected by tho question more than any other province. They bad three Minister's representing scats in the province, and lie hoped they would rise to the occasion and recognise that the time had now arrived when the North Island should enter into its hcritage-C'hcar, heat "(-and that no other portion of the Dominion would be allowed to tal:n away our just rights.— (Applause.) This was very important, because in view of the recant rapid development it was very necessary that, they should have representation accordingly, and he was surprised that tho Prime Minister had not given an immediate reply when approached on this ■ subject, It would be absolutely wrong to permit the carrying out of what was asked, and he trusted that the Auckland members would see that no such, great injustice was done to this part of tho Dominion.—(Applause.)
