RESTRICTED SLAUGHTERING SEASON
(Per United Press Assoctatioh.)
CHRISTCHUROH, April 9. Tho slaughtermen employed in the Canterbury Freezing Works have had an extremely poor season up to the present, the months of dry weather having affected tho farmers' stock. A natural result was that lambs eouJd not be sent to the works in the samo .number as in a good year. With fewer sbcop and cattlo to operate- on the slaughtermen could only earn diminished cheques, in some cases, it is stated, averaging only half what would bo earned in a rwkl season. With the rains which have fallen recently an, improvement is now taking place, and the season will probably bo an extended one.
