(Received April 8, at 9.46 p.m.) Th© New Zealand bowlers met Victoria again to-day on the St. Kilda Green, which was in .good order. The visitors received a cordial reception, In the game between Waxman and Bentley the latter led off with a 3, but $er> failed to score in. three ends, while the Victorians made 7, including a 5. At tlie tenth end the Victorians had scored 12 and the New Zealanders 7. In the next- five ends Bentley doubled his total, and the Victorians were then 2 .ahead. During tho remainder of the game the New Zealanders made the best play, scoring a 4 and two braces, and winning by; 5. C. Wood (the president of the association) was on this occasion opposed by Goldstone, and was less fortunate than on the previous day, losing to the New Zealanders by 30. Haiii-scored 4 in tho first end against Smith, but Victoria made 6 in the next two ends, including a 5. Tils New Zealandm scored oiily two; 'singles in tho next 11 ends. In the next 11 ends Smith only failed at two ends, scoring freely, including two 4'e. Ha.in never recovered, only scoring twice in the last nine ends, and losing by 24. The game between Mason and Allnutt w,is very even in the early, stages. The rinks tied at the fifth end, and the New Zealanders led by 3 points at the tenth end, by 4 at the fifteenth end, and by 8 points at the twentieth end. Give-and-take play then ensued, Allnutt winning by 7 points after a good game. Playing against Harrison, Bishop only scored 1 point in the first six ends, while his opponents made 11. The New Zealanders scored a 3 and a, 2, but then failed again for live ends, while Harrison had totalled 23. (Fkou Odb Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHUKCH, April 8. The news of th'e death-of Mr David Thomas, W.IIO accompanied the bowling team to Australia, was received with very great regret in Aehburton and Christchurch. Deceased, who was one of the Ashburton pioneers, and ono of tho most; yespected residents of the country, arrived at Ashburton in 1E66, and started as a 6hoep drover. After managing a 1 eheep station for somd years he" crossed over to Australia, but returned to the Dominion in 1877 as manager and auctioneer for M-atson and Co., Ohristchurch. In 1862 he came back to Ashburton as resident partner in Jhe firm of Matson, Cox, and Co., and on that firm relinquishing its business in IC'l7, Mr Thomas took the business over, and conducted it. very successfully until he sold it to the National Mortgage and Agency Company six months ago. Deceased entered the Borough Council in 1882, a,nd was a member of that body at tho time of his death, having also been Mayor for two consecutive years. Ho was also chairman of the High School Board at the time of his death, and, in addition, has been a member of practically all the local bodies excopt the County Council, whilst 110 has always taken a. kteon interest in all classes of sport, being president of the Amateur Athletic and the School Sports' Association, and an enthusiastio bowler. Deceased, who was 66 years' old at the time of his death, was a staunch member of the Anglican Church. He leaves a wife, six sons, and two daughters. slr Thomas was a brother of Dr Thomas, of Christohurch.
