Tho following are the rcsulfa of the bugle, signalling. and shooting competitions inaugurated by tho Navv league (Otago Branch) among tho l'ublie School Cadet, companies: — Bugle competition; bs?t bugler in any of tho throo battalions; one prize of £1 Is. Conditions: Bugler to bo able to blow itny three of the following calls—(1) Orders, (2) sergeants' dinner, <•!) officers' diuner, (■() retreat, (5) Last Post. Entrants limited to two per company. —H. Payne. North-Kast Valley School, 43 points, 1; James Potter, George street School. 40 (Mints, '2; Harvey, !Xorth-East Valley, 44 points, 3. The other competitors were: Hands, Albany Street, 89; Cameron, Macandrew Road. 37; Murray, Albany Street, K; Gillmiui, George Street, 34.' Lieutenant George (of the Garrison Band) allotted marks for bugling and Major Murray (North-East Valley School) for drill (promptness and position). The judge's remark was: "Tho bugling is lip to the usual standard." The possible marks were: For Imgling, 35; for drill. 20; —total, 55. 'Payne eecurcd 31 marks for bugling and 17 for drill; Potter, 31 for bugling and 15 for drill; Harvey, 28 for bugling' and 18 for drill; Hands, 23 for bugling and 10 for drill; Cameron, 23 for bugling and It for drill; Murray, 22 for bugling and 13 for drill; Gijinian, 21 for bugling and 14 for drill. Signalling; best signaller in any of tho three battalions; ouo prize of i'l Is.
