ATHLETICS.
D.A.A.C. EVENING- MEETING. Tho second of the series of evening athlctie meetings promoted by tho Durxsdin Amateur Athletic Club was held on tho CaJodonian Ground last evening in tho presence oif a good atleiidfliico of .spectators, who maaiif<st«J iha greatest interest in tho proceedings. The events were got off with groat despatch, and, us is usual with these vnootings, the lnanaMment was all that could bo desfred. An innovation, was the telegraph board showing the results, which was greatly appreciated by •the public. In the 50 Yards Daah, Reid carno with a firm spurt at tho finish, and won iu a 4-SSCC. The weight-putting did not produce anything sensational, tbo performances being only mediocre. Tho 440 Yards was; a good race, Reid winning this event after a fine dash up the straigm. The race of tie even- , ing -was tho Two-mile Fkt, which was interesting all tho way. Thomson, the winner, who led oil tho way after the first nrilo, finished with a rare turn of speed in tho straight, ltesulls:— 60 Yabds Dash. First Heat.—B. J. Cray led for the first 150 yds, when Ruddock •put iu a fast sprint, aud at 220 yds looked an, easy winner. Continuing in the lead, Hnddock held an apparently safe position until well within the straight, when Reid put in si challenge, and, sprinting gamely, slipped pas* ■Kuddock, who was palpably tiring, and won by 4yds; Williams a similar distance away, thud. Time, 55 Msec.

At the end of the first mile Itihrtrie, the limit mm, was in front, closely attended by 'ihompson anJ G. Wilson, the rest of the fie'd strung out behind. At the seventh lip Thompson went to the front and nraintainerl ft strong lead, his nearest attendant being G. Wilson, who was eome 20yds away. Tho field had by this time thinned down coneiderobly. Going round the back stretch for the eighth ia-p M'Knighi who was limning well, set sail after the leading man, with Love, who had broken ihe rest of the field some yards war At tho bell for the last, lap Tlioiun-on was going strongly in the lead, with SPKirigß some yards away. Once in the straight Jl Knight threw out a challenge to Thompson, but tho latter responded gamely, and with a- rare sprint, finished full o[ running 10yds ahead of M'Knight, who wa» 15jds ahead of hove, -who finished ■third. Time, lOrain 12 'l-»3ec. COMBINED EVENING SPORTS. As will be seen, in another column, the entries for events at the a-bove eporU have been reopened, and will be received till 5 p m. on Monday. Notwithstanding the wot weather lust Wednesday, when the sports had to be postponed on necount of ibe MitemmUont rain, and despite the fact that notices were pouted 111 tho city and suburbs, fully a hundred people turned np at tho Caledonian Ground, being unowate of the postponement. This augurs well for Wednesday nightfa gathering, which (wealhor permitting) should provide » good night's eport.
