IRON FIRE-ESCAPES.

SlE.—Through the medium of your paper I wish to draw the attention of boardinghouse proprietors and others who have iron fire-C6CQpes attached to thoir premises as a safety for human lives from fires to the fact- that when a lire occurred in a certain town in New Zoalnd the fire escapes, through some reason or other, were of no use; they were rusted, it is supixßod through their being not in use and through exposure to fJie weather. To ensure saf-toy in the event of fires, would it he out of the way for the proprietor of a house to make a weekly inspection of fire-laxlders on his premises, as ignorance on this question would not bo upheld whero the risk of loss of life is concerned.—l am, etc., - ~ T , An Epiusf., "Dimfidw, Julj J2. ■ • '
