THE "LONG CHAIN."

(Pke United Pais a Association.) WELLINGTON, July 3. During discussion at the Surveyor's Institute it was stated_ that Christcimrch and Wanganui; were originally , surveyed with what, is known as tho "long chain," which contained an extra link, so that when a ccrsiderable frontago came to be cut up the owner found i\e had so many links more, than he thought, and difficulties arose. An agreement was afterwards come to which relieved the officers of this hindranee. It was also stated that, in view of the haphasard way in which the town areas wen surveyed in Wellington, it was remarkable that surveys here had closed up so well.
