Monday, July 1. (Before Mr A. Thomson and Captain Hodge, J.P. s.).

Drunkenness.—A. first offender, charged with this offence, was convicted and fined ss, or 21 hours' imprisonment. Herbert Back, a seaman, similarly charged, a-as fined ss, or 24 hours' imprisonment.

Assault. —AVilliam Jl'Killop was charged with having assaulted Charles Taylor on board the Mokoia at Port Chalmers last Saturday. The complainant, v/ho is chief engineer on the vessel, slated that accused had evidently been drinking, but was not drunk. He ordered accused to turn to work, but the latter followed Taylor to his-room, from ' which M'Killop was subsequently ejected. Accused thereupon struck out at complainant, and persisted in doing so until Taylor got him down and held him until the police were summoned, when accused was given in charge. Complainant stated thai accused's conduct had been good previously. In view of this testimony the Bench decided to deal leniently with accused, who was fined £1 and 3s costs, in default seven days' imprisonment-.

Indecent Exposure.—William Howorlh was charged with having committed this offence on June 28 and June 29 in Jfacandrew road and tho New Cemetery road respectively. After hearing the evidence the Bench remanded accused until to-morrow.
