OAMARU NOTES.
(Fxoit Otn Own Corrxspoudxnt.) OAMARU. June 26. Tho Oainaru Firo Board met to-day to consider the estimates of expenditure for the coming year, which have to be sent to Wellington .this month. }t was found that the. legislature had failed to provide any funds on which the board could d*-aw during the first three months of its existence. One member of tho board offered to get tho board out of ilie difficulty in the meantime, and his offer was accepted, there being immediate requirements, but emphatic protests were expressed agairst the position in which the Legislature bad placed the Fire Boards in neglecting to piovide that funds should _be available as soon as the boards eamo into existence, The whole of tile day was spent in considering and framing the estimates and determining the policy of the board. The Waitaki High School Board of Governors to-day resolved to have estimates prepared for an extension of tho toys' school, and to consider '.hem at an early date.. It was mentioned that already the accommodation is fully booked for 1908, and the board recognises the necessity for substantial additions to tho boarding establishment to meet tho demands.
