MEETINGS.

The ftoslyn Presbyterin Church Band of Hopo held its usual fortnightly meeting on Friday last, when a largo number ot children and parents were present. The Rev. Jas. Chisliolui occupied tho chair. Wright, G. Miller, E. George, J. lt?.unsell, and H. George; eonga, by Misa Thomas and Mr Nnpior; and a duct by Miss and Mr Thomas. The last meeting of tho Trinity Litorwy and Musical Society took the form of. a debate, the subject being, " That Women are Enoroaohing Unduly Upon t>he Occupations of Mm." The iK'gativo was taken by Kise Jessie Kay and Mira Maxwell, whilst Mr D. Oain and Mr J. BJaokwood championed tho affirmativo side. There was » very full attandance of members, a good number of whom had brought friends with them to hear the dismission. Tho speakers debated inogj seriously, and Mr Gain placed boforo tho meeting statistics from the Now Zealand Year Book showing tho effect of the increaaiug employment of women upon the health Hid genora! efficiency of the population of the Empire. Miss Kay, by her capital address upon tho right of women to compete , with men in the matter of earning a livelihood. enlisted the sympathy of those present, and after ft general discussion and replies by the loaders in the debato the voting slowed a, . largo majority in favour of the negative. Mr Blackwood and Misa Maxwell ably seconds their respective leaders. Mr A. H. Reed (one of tho viee-preeidents) occupied tho chair, nnd during the evening vocal solos were rendered by ilisa Kitto and Mrs Lawn.
